EDUCATION: Observatory / Summer Solstice lecture at the Montauk Library
June 21, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
FreeWhat makes the days longer and the nights shorter? What’s the astronomical reason for the warmth in the air? We’ll explore the science of the sun and the sky, as well as the summer festivals that ancient and modern people have created to celebrate the brightest time of the year.
Since 2014, William Francis Taylor has been NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador, giving talks about the universe around us, as well as sharing telescopes and stars with the public. He is also a local tutor and a life-long East End resident.
The lecture will be followed by a guided tour of the night sky through a telescope, weather permitting.
RESERVATIONS: Seating is limited so reservations are recommended. Sign up at Montauk Library’s Circulation Desk or call 631-668-3377.
