Welcome to Montauk

Letter from the New Editor

By Gwendolen Groocock

This is an amazing place. Where else can you find sandy beaches, boating and fishing, world-class wineries, and local farms all in one area? Greenport is a vibrant synergy of the best of the North Fork, with a growing diversity of boutiques, inns and hotels, art galleries and restaurants. In this guide, we bring you a ton of useful information to help you make the most of your precious downtime here.

The wine scene is, of course, the main attraction on the North Fork, but it can be hard to choose the wineries that are right for you. We give you some inside information, plus a complete list of your options.
A happy development in Greenport’s increasing popularity is that old inns and restaurants are under new ownership and being upgraded to 21st century standards. American Beech in Stirling Square and the Sound View Inn and Halyard Restaurant have both been redone in an elegant yet relaxed, beachy vibe that speaks perfectly to our region. More deals are going on behind the scenes so expect more news on this front. There’s also a growing network of local food producers, and by the way Greenport just got a little sweeter with the addition of Hampton Chocolate Factory.

Window-shopping for real estate is always fun but if you’re serious about a second home or even a full-time move “out east,” we give you an analysis of the Greenport and North Fork real estate scene to help inform your decisions.
Lastly, I’d like to say a heartfelt thank-you to Carol and Joe Nye, the amazing couple who created the Greenport Guide and On Montauk guides and websites, and ran them for years. They’re now retired and enjoying their beloved Montauk. I’m very excited to be working with the new publishers, Kay and Carter Tyler, who are keeping the guide local and relevant even as they expand the brand so we can provide you even more timely and useful content.
Enjoy!
